Police officers explained to reporters that Meghan Alt, 25, sent pornographic images of a 4-year-old girl to a soldier in South California.
The soldier gave her money and other goods in exchange for the images.
A press statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department explained the charges - although they did not explain how the child was related to the 25-year-old.
“Alt is suspected of using a 4-year-old family member to manufacture child pornography and electronically distribute it for financial gain and/or gifts,” they said.
Meghan Alt also reportedly advertised for sexual encounters on Craigslist in exchange for money and gifts and in at least one of the exchanges her children were present.
Alt, who was named 2014 Mrs. Orange County, reportedly confessed to the crimes during a police interview.
Police have since said that Alt's husband knew nothing of her alleged involvement in pornography. He took custody of their children following her arrest.
According to KTLA, Alt faces charges of performing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14, as well as charges of possession and control of child pornography.
She could be sentenced to more than 14 years in prison if convicted.
Alt is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 30. She is currently being held in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
