Ruzan Badalyan, who is Armenian, now claims that her and husband Samuel Forrest has agreed their child would have the best life if he returned with his father to New Zealand.

Sam set up a go fund me page for his baby, Leo

Forrest had previously claimed on his funding page that he was essentially given an ultimatum by the mother of his child, who said the down’s syndrome baby would bring ‘shame’ on the entire family.

But despite these new claims by the mother, Forrest says: ‘None of that was discussed with me because the decision had already been made, The family or her wouldn’t even enter into a dialogue with me on that particular thing. I had to make my decision because of this innocent little guy. He’s beautiful, just beautiful.’

He continued: ‘I gave her the opportunity that we could raise him together and I wouldn’t leave and I think the proof is there - that I myself am now caring for him full time.’

After being told by his wife that she would divorce him if he kept the down’s syndrome baby rather than give him away, Sam said his choice was clear.

Nonetheless, he has been left devastated by his wife’s decision to leave him, and is now raising money for him and his son to return to Auckland - where there are better facilities for dealing with a child with disabilities.

Hundreds have praised Sam for his decision to raise his son alone, and he has surpassed his funding target of $66,000 to help him get what he needs.

Speaking of the money raised, Mr Forrest said: ‘Thanks everyone - we are stunned beyond words at the incredible support & love you’ve shown.’
