Mum-of-three: ‘Gastric surgery left me in a coma – I’ll never walk again’

When Dawn Cole saved up her benefits to have a £4,700 gastric bypass abroad, she thought she’d get the body of her dreams.

Instead, she almost died and was in a coma for seven weeks.

Now, a year on, she’s virtually bedbound, will never walk again and is tube fed.

Full-time mum Dawn, 32, who lives in Hampshire with husband and carer Dave, 38, and kids, Brandon, 12, Krystal, eight, and Callum, six, says: “I thought surgery would improve my life, but instead I’ll never walk again.

"It’s horrendous. I wanted to lose weight after having three children so that I’d feel more confident. I did lose 4st, but I also almost lost my life.

“I used to spend my life running after my children, now I feel so guilty I can’t play with them or even put them to bed.”
