Pest control had to be sent to Abby's home after she rang her local branch of Tesco in Cochester, Essex, taking away the bin with her bananas in and vacuum cleaner, which had both been in contact with the tropical eggs, to be incinerated.

"I couldn't believe it when the little cocoon opened" Abby said, describing what went through her mind when she poked the banana with a toothpick. "I thought it was just some mould and I was trying to get it off so I could use the rest of the bunch", she added.

"Even when I saw what was in it - it looked just like frog spawn - I still didn't think the worst".

The eggs were discovered to be from the venomous Brazilian wandering spider. Luckily, experts have said that the eggs were unlikely to hatch due to the cold UK climate.

Tesco have replaced the mum of one's hoover and bin and have also released a statement to say that they will ask their banana supplier to investigate.

In the meantime, Mrs Woodgate has been told it is ok to squash the spiders if see spots any creeping around her home.
