Around 70 woman turned up at a Nottingham branch of Sports Direct with their young children in support of their fellow breast feeding mother.
Protest organiser Leah Gibson said: ‘We’re here today to stand up for breastfeeding women and their right to feed their children in public without being asked to leave places.’
'The turn-out has been fantastic, probably more than I expected. It’s been really peaceful and calm, which is exactly what we wanted.’
'We just wanted to show everyone that we can feed in peace, without showing everyone our boobs… It’s shocking that we’ve still got this sexual ‘thing’ about boobs.
She continued: 'Breasts were made to feed a child and to nourish. Only 1 per cent of the population can’t physically feed their child this way so when you look at it like that, it shows you what they are for.’
The mothers rallied together after mum-of-two Wioletta Komar was asked to leave the store because she was breastfeeding her young son.
Speaking at the time she said: ‘I can't understand why a baby has to be punished for being hungry and why I need to feel like a criminal when I just want to feed my baby son.’
The group of mums reportedly spent 15 minutes in the shop, with many of them breastfeeding in the store.
Staff in the store reportedly showed no objections to the women feeding their babies in this instance.
