Victoria Milligan was enjoying a holiday in Cornwall with her TV executive husband, Nick, and their four children when the speedboat they were travelling in made a tight turn, throwing the family from the boat.

Nick, 51, and daughter Emily, eight, were run over and killed by the boats propellors. Victoria lost her lower, left leg and her four-year-old son suffered serious wounds.

The couple’s two other children, aged 12 and 10, suffered minor injuries.

Speaking about the tragedy for the first time, Victoria spoke of her heartbreak.

She said: The rug has been pulled from underneath me. I only had my little girl for eight years.

“Anniversaries, their birthdays, father's day, the anniversary of the accident - you just sort of look as a black hole and you don’t even want to contemplate it because it’s too awful to think about.”

She added: 'It puts a lot in perspective. I sort of think about the things I used to worry about.

“I used to have angst over the smallest, little pathetic details. Like wearing the right pair of shoes or worried about whether Kit was going to make his lesson on time. Just appreciate what you have because you have no idea what is around the corner.”
