Writing on the Scary Mommy blog, the photojournalist revealed her experience of living with her adopted daughter who has HIV, and the constant fear that she will be rejected because of her disease.

‘My HIV child is playing with your child, and you don’t know it’ she begins.

‘She has played with your child at a local private preschool, been dunked next to yours during swim lessons, and stands in line behind your kid in gymnastics class.’

‘My daughter might date your son when she’s a teenager, and she’ll marry and have HIV-negative babies one day - if she wants to. Please, fellow mommies, know that HIV is nothing to be afraid of.’

The woman identified at Mosher, says that her and her family are trying to be more open so that her daughter doesn’t grow up feeling she has a ‘shameful secret.’

Mosher and her partner adopted their daughter after photographing an AIDS orphanage, ‘after doing some research and talking with other families, we absolutely knew that we could do it and that HIV was a manageable chronic disease,’ she said.

It was through the organisation Elim Kids, that helped them adopt their beautiful daughter. But despite their success story, Mosher says she lives in constant fear that her children will be ‘disinvited from birthday parities…kicked out of private school…excluded and despised because of misinformation and baseless fear.’

After reading her comments, we sincerely hope this doesn't happen to this clearly loving and happy family.
