The mother of missing student Megan Roberts has said that the disappearance of her "beautiful daughter" appears to be the result of a "tragic run of events with no one to blame".
Megan, 20, has not been seen for over a week since she disappeared during a night out with friends from York St John University.
While police are still searching for Megan, they have revealed that the most likely explanation for Megan's disappearance is that she was separated from her group while under the influence of alcohol and fell into the River Ouse.
Megan's mother, Jackie, has posted a message to the Facebook page 'Help Find Megan Roberts', thanking people for their support and revealing that "no one is to blame" for her daughter's disappearance:
*"Thank you for all your support and kind thoughts. The police have been amazing, they are doing all they can to find her. *
*"We've been given as much information as the police can give us and all evidence does point towards this being a tragic run of events with no one to blame. *
*"Until we know for certain, we all have hope, but whatever the outcome we are all carrying Megan in our hearts. *
"This is a very difficult time and, as a family we will always be thankful for everyone's love and support and caring thoughts for my beautiful daughter."
Divers from the regional police underwater search unit spent the weekend searching the River Ouse for Megan Roberts, using sonar equipment to scan the water. No sign of the 20-year-old has yet been discovered.
A week after her disappearance, Superintendent Phil Cain of the North Yorkshire police said: "The strongest and most probable line of inquiry being pursued by police is that Megan, affected by alcohol, has entered the river."
Police have said that Megan was last seen on CCTV with a group of people near Lendal Bridge, which crosses the River Ouse. She had been drinking "for several hours" in Popworld nightclub, York city centre, until around 2.10am on Thursday morning.
Megan Roberts was reported missing a week ago and, while police are pursuing the "strongest" possibility that the student fell into the river, the people of Help Find Megan on Facebook are still encouraging people to remain hopeful and vigilant.
Anyone who has seen Miss Roberts, from Wetherby, West Yorkshire, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
