Model Monica Riley, who weighs 50 stone and wants to be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the fattest mother in the world, spoke on This Morning earlier today.
Monica, and her partner Sid, who funnel feeds her in an effort to help her consume the 8,000 calories a day she needs to reach 71 stone, appeared on the show via a video link, and enraged viewers when they revealed they are also trying for a baby.
Despite wishing to become a mother, Monica told presenters Holly Willougby and Phillip Schofield she would be “happy” if she “became immobile and totally dependent on Sid.”
Sid, for his part, loves Monica’s figure and says it’s “like hugging a giant pillow.”
According to the NHS, being overweight increases the risk of complications for pregnant women and their babies. These can include miscarriage, gestational diabetes, shoulder dystocia, blood clots and pre-eclampsia. The higher a woman’s BMI, the higher the risks.
Phillip and Holly both expressed their concern over Sid feeling Monica so much fat, given the health implications, saying: “You are slowly moving towards a grave."
But Sid disagreed, saying you can’t go through life fearing death “as every time you get in a car, you could die in a car crash. You might as well wrap yourself up in bubble wrap.”
Viewers took to Twitter to express their outrage, with one user tweeting: "How this woman seriously believes she can bring up a child with such a disgusting and unhealthy mentality is beyond me. #thismorning”
The couple conceded that if a doctor were to raise concerns, they might be prone to listen: “If a doctor did tell me I had to lose weight in order to conceive then I think I would lose weight,” explained Monica.
Which simply leaves the question of how she would care for a child if she was immobile. The couple previously spoke to Femail about it being a sexual fantasy of theirs: “We talk about it a lot,” she said. “I would feel like a queen because Sid would be waiting on me hand and foot, and he’s excited about it too."
