On 20th August, Marley McKenna Spindler left her home in Surfside Beach, South Carolina, to meet her friends for breakfast before their first day of high school.

The 16-year-old never made it to class.

According to reports, Marley enjoyed her breakfast with her friends before heading off to pick up a friend named Jeremy, who was drunk on the [Ocean] Boulevard.

But, at 8.42am, the teenager sent a group message to her friends saying that she was being followed.

"They all thought she was joking, and didn't think that much of it," her aunt, Shelley Long, told NBC News.

"They are also teenagers and didn't want to tattle on their friend if she was cutting school. They didn't think anything bad had happened.”

“But now we're all scared."

CCTV cameras have shown Marley driving and withdrawing money from a bank.

Later that day, her phone - which her father repeatedly tried to ring when she didn’t come home from school - was found in a hotel car park.

Her car has yet to be found.

Lt. Raul Denis of the Horry County Police Department said: "The investigation so far has revealed that she left her friends at breakfast on the morning of the 20th, driving her car, to reportedly pick up a friend named Jeremy who was drunk on the [Ocean] Boulevard.

"A Jeremy, believed to be the Jeremy she spoke of, was identified, located, and cleared in this case."

He added that, so far, there is no evidence to indicate foul play at this time, adding that a search of the teen’s mobile phone “revealed evidence that she left alone and not under duress or coercion”.

However her parents are still begging for answers.

“We love her so very much,” her mother, Karen Spindler, told WMBF-TV.

“She’s our only child and she’s our little light of sun chine. That’s it. Our whole life is her.”

According to Fox News, Marley disappeared not far from where 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel was last seen.

Brittanee disappeared from the area after leaving the Blue Water Resort on 25th April, 2009.

She has never been found.

**UPDATE: MARLEY MCKENNA SPINDLER HAS SINCE BEEN FOUND SAFE AND WELL
