Carson Urness disappeared from his family home in North Dakota, US, but it was man’s best friend that helped keep him safe from danger.

Carson’s father, Brock, revealed to ABC News that his mother, Courtney, sounded the alarm.

‘She checked on him again at 7:30 and he was gone,’ he said. ‘She looked around frantically for about 30 minutes and then called me.’

The parents searched their property for an hour before they rang the police to report their son as missing.

Carson’s dad revealed that police pulled out all the stops in their search for the missing three-year-old.

‘They had an airplane here searching for him and 60 four-wheelers and people looking on foot and didn’t find anything.’

Thankfully, they found him after seven hours of searching.

‘That four-wheeler found him about a mile away from our house, in the middle of one of our fields by a pasture… Carson was in tall grass but when they shone lights down to sweep it, the dog stuck its head out.’

Carson is now back to his playful self following his ordeal

The child was found covered by the family dog, Cooper. It was revealed that the boy’s only injuries were to his feet, which were the only body parts the heroic pooch was unable to cover.

‘Carson told his mom that Cooper stayed on top of him and kept him safe and warm,’ the boy’s relieved dad said.

‘Cooper doesn’t leave the yard but since they’re best friends he went and followed him.’

We hope that Cooper was given lots of doggie treats as a reward for protecting young Carson!
