UPDATE: The body of a 6-day old baby girl has been found on the side of a cliff, just yards from the site where Charlotte Bevan's remains were discovered.

Police have still to formally identify the baby.

Charlotte Bevan disappeared from St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol with her daughter, Zarnee Tiana, between 8.30pm and 9pm on Tuesday.

Neither mum nor baby were appropriately dressed to cope with the cold weather on Tuesday evening; Charlotte was clad in pyjamas and slippers, her baby wrapped in a blanket.

Hours after releasing CCTV footage of Charlotte walking out of the hospital with daughter, police made a grim discovery in the Avon Gorge, beneath Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge.

This morning Avon and Somerset Police released a brief statement, which read: “We can confirm that the body of a woman has been found in the Avon gorge in Bristol.

“Formal identification will not take place until tomorrow (Thursday).

"The family of Charlotte Bevan have been told of this development.

“The police helicopter remains in the area to assist the continuing searches by police officers on the ground.”

The hospital released a brief statement, reading:

"We are deeply saddened by the death of Charlotte Bevan and extend our condolences to her family".

Post by Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

Prior to the discovery, Charlotte's partner Pascal Malbrouck, 37, released a statement pleading with the new mother to return home.

He said: “I miss you.

"The last few days have been amazing and I want many more of these.

“Please come home. I am waiting for you.

"You are welcome home any time even if it’s not straight away.

"Please just let us know you are ok.”
