The body was found on Tuesday evening, near a path close to houses in Westfield Lane - just under a mile from Amber Peat’s home in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
Formal identification has yet to take place, but police have said that they are not treating the death as suspicious.
Amber’s family have been informed - and have asked for privacy.
The schoolgirl was last seen at her home on Saturday afternoon, where she stormed out of the house without her mobile phone or money.
Her father, Danny, revealed at a police press conference yesterday: "We had just all had a brilliant holiday. It's just not right.
"We told her to clean a cool box out that we had had sandwiches in for the journey home.
"It was a chore, basically, and I'm sure all teenagers are the same, she didn't want to do a chore.
“That was the last conversation."
Both he and his wife, Kelly, described the teenager’s disappearance as “completely out of character”.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place later today.
Our thoughts are with Amber Peat’s family at this time.
