Fynnjan may only be 11 years old, but he has some seriously big dreams.

In October 2012, when he was 10, Fynnjann - who has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome - wrote a Christmas song. His music teacher said it was so good that she would love him to perform it at the school's Christmas Concert, if he wrote some words to it.

"I wanted to raise money for Asperger’s to help other people like me and also to help my school to help other children who have special needs"

He did. And, after his family heard it, they were desperate to have it recorded professionally. But Fynnjan, as he reveals on his very own website, had a few conditions:

"Mum asked me if I wanted to record it professionally. I said this would be OK only if I could use it to raise some money for Asperger’s, if my classmates would sing with me and Buzz would play on it."

He added: "I wanted to raise money for Asperger’s to help other people like me and also to help my school to help other children who have special needs. I needed a lot of help from my school and my classmates; if it weren’t for them, I would still be crawling about under tables, traumatised and refusing to come out. Now I have the confidence, although scary, to sing in front of my Mum and the whole school.

"I needed a lot of help from my school and my classmates; if it weren’t for them, I would still be crawling about under tables, traumatised and refusing to come out"

"I went on the internet to see what the biggest charity for Asperger’s is and it is The National Autistic Society, NAS for short, I sent them an email and they thought it was great idea and would support it.

"I [also] asked Buzz if they would play the backing on my song and together we sorted out an arrangement which would be right for a single, about 3 minutes long."

The resulting song has received high praise on YouTube, with users dubbing Funnjan "brilliant" and "an inspiration".

It’s estimated that 1 in every 100 children in the UK has some kind of Autistic Spectrum Disorder – that’s 700,000 people.

The symptoms can vary widely from child to child; some have trouble sleeping, others find it more difficult to deal with social interaction, making it hard for them to learn in groups at school and making them more vulnerable to bullies.

In short, Asperger's can make the world feel like a confusing, isolating and daunting place - and there is no cure.

However there IS a wide range of treatments available for children with Asperger's Syndrome, including support in schools, specialist education and behavioural programmes, which can really help children overcome many of the symptoms and fit in with the rest of society. They can have a happy childhood and grow into productive happy adults.
