The ex-publicist was jailed in May after a jury found him guilty of assaulting four different women between 1977 and 1984.

The 71-year-old’s lawyers are now appealing his sentence following his convictions, with Richard Howell QC claiming that the judge’s approach was ‘unfair’ and that Clifford’s sentencing should have reflected ‘modern attitudes’.

The appeal has now been taken to court, where Clifford watched over procedures via video link from Littlehey prison in Cambridgeshire.

During the hearing, Lord Justice Treacy said: “There are a significant number of issues to be considered and we consider that we require further time to discuss and decide those issues."

According to those attending the court date, Clifford appeared “ pale and gaunt” and looked as though he had lost weight.

The celebrity publicist was one of the first high profile figures to be arrested under Operation Yewtree, which was set up to investigate hundreds of historical sex offences, particularly those related to TV presenter Jimmy Savile.
