Craig Hutchinson, 43, had been dating an unnamed woman for a matter of months back in 2006 when she told him she had some doubts about the relationship.

Rather than sit her down and talk things through, or give her some space and time to reconsider, Craig decided to prick holes in his condoms in a bid to get her pregnant. His hope was that she would stay with him if they had a baby to care for together.

Unfortunately the woman, who had always been honest about not being ready for children, became pregnant. And she still left Craig, leaving him to confess what he had done, in a series of text messages.

Yes, you read that correctly; he made his confession via text message.

Eleven days later, the woman underwent an abortion.

In 2007, Hutchinson was charged with aggravated sexual assault but was acquitted. Prosecutors appealed, and he was convicted at a second trial. He then appealed against that verdict, but the Supreme Court has now finally ruled that he was guilty of sexual assault.

Although it couldn’t be proven that the woman’s pregnancy was a direct result of the condom tampering, two of the judges wrote: “Mr Hutchinson exposed her to an increased risk of becoming pregnant by using a faulty condom.

"A condom with a pinprick in it is no longer effective birth control.”

The written decision of the court read: “A person consents to how she will be touched, and she is entitled to decide what sexual activity she agrees to engage in for whatever reason she wishes.

"Because of the deliberate deceit of her partner, the sexual activity was not carried out in the manner that the complainant had agreed to.” Couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

He faces up to 18 months in prison and will be registered as a sex offender.
