Damian Hammond went missing two years ago. Loving wife Cathy enlisted the police to help her search for her 35-year-old husband and, thankfully, they tracked him down at a local hospital.
But, tragically, Damian had absolutely no idea who she was.
Damian had completely lost his memory due to a combination of stress and trauma while travelling to work - and, since then, he has worked hard to slowly piece his life back together.
Speaking with This Morning hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, he explained: “It was really difficult to take it all in.
“I didn't understand who everyone was... when Cathy came around the corner in hospital, I thought she was a doctor - I didn't realise she was my wife.
“She called my name and I looked at her blankly."
“She explained that we were married and she lifted my wedding finger up and we've got jigsaw rings so they clicked together so I knew we were connected in some way.”
He continued: “Memories of my early childhood, there's virtually nothing. Senior school I remember a little bit more... social networking has really helped.
“When I was shown our baby books that had pictures of me with the children - it was very, very tough to start with because I couldn't remember it and I just sat there and burst out crying.”
But, by the end of the show, something beautiful happened as Damian turned to his wife and asked her a very special question.
“I'm just living each day as it is,” he said before turning to Cathy.
“I love her. I love her with all my heart... and I just wanted to ask you something - will you re-marry me?"
“Yes, I will. Of course I will,” she replied.
