We'll use the created nose on the forehead to replace his original rotting nose. After that he'll have a new nose and his forehead will get flat
Astonishing images revealed today show a Chinese man who has had a new nose grown on his forehead after his rotted due to an infection.
In the pictures, 22 year-old Xiao Lian is at a hospital in Fuzhou, Fujian province, as doctors check on his progress ahead of transplant surgery.
Lian’s nose was damaged by a bacterial infection he contracted after being in injured in a car accident a year ago, causing the young man to have breathing difficulties.
The infection had corroded the cartilage of the nose making it impossible for surgeons to fix, leaving no option but to create a replacement nose.
‘His nose was severely infected by bacteria due to a lack of timely treatment, and the bacteria melted the supporting cartilage within the nose,’ said plastic surgeon Guo Zhihui.
‘His whole nose inner frame disappeared, and we had to find a new way to remake him a nose.’
To create the new body part, a skin expander was placed under the skin on Lian’s forehead and as the resulting bump grew it was carefully shaped into a nose. Doctors also used cartilage from Lian’s ribs to create a nasal septum.
Doctors are now happy that Lian’s brand new nose is ready to replace his old one and surgery will begin soon.
Dr Guo said: ‘We'll use the created nose on the forehead to replace his original rotting nose. After that he'll have a new nose and his forehead will get flat.’
Amazing!
