A birth control injection called Vasalgel has reportedly been successful in a trial on three baboons, and so far none of the animals have impregnated a female baboon.

The company behind the production of the drug is hoping to start human trials next year, and if successful aim for the drug to be on the market by 2017.

The injection only needs to be administered once, and can last for a long period of time. If the man decides he no longer wants to use the birth control, he can have a second injection to ‘flush out’ the Vasalgel.

Many scientists have attempted to create a male form of birth control, but so far it is mostly the woman’s responsibility (aside from the use of condoms) to take the combined pill or receive the implant or injection.
