Madeleine McCann: Police to test DNA found in holiday apartment following paedophile arrest

British police are to test DNA samples found in the McCann’s holiday apartment in 2007.

Over 31 strands of hair recovered from the scene have been stored in an underground bunker by Portuguese police since the toddler disappeared.

British police requested the samples during a four-hour discussion with Portuguese police and are now submitting an official letter of request for UK forensics to test the DNA.

Portuguese lab chief Francisco Brideza said that he hopes police find clues to Madeleine’s disappearance from the samples.

He told The Sun: "I have the certainty the British police went away happy.”

The development comes less than a week after it was revealed that paedophile Roderick MacDonald- believed to be part of the child abuse ring linked to the case- had been arrested.

MacDonald was arrested in Malta and is expected to be extradited to the UK.

Maddie disappeared in 2007 shortly before her fourth birthday. Her parents Kate and Gerry McCann have campaigned tirelessly in an effort to find their daughter ever since, though they have faced a campaign of hate from some individuals who beleive they were behind their daughter's dissapearance.
