UPDATE: A spokesperson for ITV has released a statement that confirmed Kate and Gerry McCann were never due to appear on Lorraine in the first place.
**EARLIER: **
Everything was in place for the McCann's to make an appearance on Lorraine next Thursday, where they would have presumably speak about the new information that has come to light regarding the one leads in the Madeleine case – including the case that British police believe a gang of thieves took Madeleine during a robbery.
But they have had to cancel their appearance as, Kate, 48, and Gerry, 47, were left devastated after suffering a £390,000 setback in their libel battle with ex-Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral.
Goncalo wrote a book titled Truth of the Lie, in which he accused the couple of covering up Maddie's 'accidental' death, the book has also been allowed to re-published recently. He was also ordered to pay damages last year after it was ruled that he had libelled the couple.
A family friend told The Daily Star:
"They would love to make a new appeal, but are aware that any journalist would want to inquire about Mr Amaral’s victory.
"They’re seething over the ruling. That’s the last thing they want to discuss."
Sources have also come forward to state that the couple said to have turned down a number of television and magazine interview offers around the world as they are worried interviewers will focus on the libel loss and not the nine-year hunt for their daughter.
We will bring you more on this story as it happens.
