M62 Hen Party tragedy: Lorry driver found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving

The driver of a HGV has been cleared of causing death by dangerous driving at Leeds Crown Court today.

Kevin Ollerhead, 45, was driving the lorry which hit a coach carrying a hen party on the M62 in West Yorkshire in April 2013.

Tragically, Bethany Jones, one of the 20 women on the coach – all of whom were injured in the crash – died from her injuries at the scene. Her parents later told of their “fun, bubbly girl”.

They added: She was caring and considerate to everyone she met. She was the apple of her grandad’s eye and she will never be forgotten and will be sadly missed by everyone.”

The women were set for a night out in Liverpool to celebrate the up-coming wedding of Stephanie Firth.

Following the horrific crash, it was feared Stephanie would never walk again but incredibly, she recovered and later married.

James Johnson, the driver of the coach, pleaded guilty to causing Beth’s death by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing and is set to be sentenced in November.
