Lawyer translates slang text in court with hilarious results

A courtroom was left in hysterics after a barrister had to translate slang texts for the jury.

Prosecutor Mark Paltenghi read texts, to the Snaresbrook Crown Court, which were sent between four defendants during an alleged air rifle shooting spree.

One of the messages, read in the north-east London court, said: “Hurry up, I’ve got bare haters around me now.”

Paltenghi told the court it translated as: “Hurry up, I’ve got a lot of people who don’t particularly like me here.”

Another text read by the barrister, believed to be in his 50s, said: “Hurry up I’ve got a strap on me, this is bare bait.”

He announced to the court: “We believe this means: ‘Hurry up, I’ve got a gun on me, and this is really risky’.”

According to reports the defendants and jurors then burst out laughing when Judge Patricia Lees asked if this was accurate.

Anne-Marie Madden, 25, Scott Stokes, 20, Jason Stokes, 18 and a 17-year-old allegedly fired from their car, smashing windows of several properties in east London area.

They reportedly dumped their guns when they saw a police car following them in Dagenham.
