Kayleigh Haywood began speaking to Luke Harlow, a man she had never met, on 31st October 2015.

In just under two weeks, the 15-year-old girl had exchanged 2643 messages with him - and she truly believed that she had found someone worthy of her love.

Why?

Because Harlow had told the schoolgirl everything that she wanted to hear; that she was beautiful, that he cared for her more than words could say, and that she was special.

Kayleigh had no idea that she was being groomed by an online predator - nor was she the only victim he had in his sights.

But, while Harlow had been messaging two other young girls, it was Kayleigh that finally agreed to his requests to spend the night of Friday 13 November 2015 at his house.

She spent the next day with him too, and in the early hours of Sunday 15 November, having been held against her will by Harlow and by his next door neighbour Stephen Beadman, Kayleigh was raped and murdered by Beadman.

The pretty young schoolgirl’s body wasn’t found until three days later.

At the time, her mother sobbed as she said: "We cannot begin to find the words to describe how we feel or how we continue to get through each minute of every day.

"We lost our beautiful, precious little girl Kayleigh who we will never see again. We miss Kayleigh every minute of every day, as do her brothers and sister.

"We are all heartbroken and devastated, our hearts have been torn apart.

"We ask ourselves every day, why? Why Kayleigh? Why did this happen to our beautiful daughter?

With the support of Kayleigh’s family, Leicestershire Police has made a film about aspects of the last two weeks of her life.

Leicestershire Police explain: “Kayleigh’s Love Story is as a warning to young people about the dangers of speaking to people they don’t know online.

“The film highlights just how quick and easy it can be for children to be groomed online without them or those around them knowing it is happening.

“Its purpose is to protect children now and in the future and to stop another family losing a child in this way.”

The full film - which lasts around five minutes - will initially be shown to communities in Measham, Ibstock and Coalville in North West Leicestershire, where Kayleigh lived.

Police have warned that it contains graphic content, insisting that it would carry a 15 certificate if it were to be screened at a cinema.

It will not be made available online until January 2017.
