One of Lee Rigby's murderers has launched an appeal against his whole life prison sentence, the Judicial Office has confirmed.

Michael Adebolajo was condemned to die behind bars - with judge Mr Justice Sweeney saying the killer had 'no real prospect of rehabilitation'.

However Adebolajo has launched an appeal against his sentence - the news of which has caused something of a public outcry.

Katie Hopkins waded into the debate on Twitter, tweeting: "Which law firm is acting for Adebolajo for his appeal? On what grounds? Why is Britain tolerating this filth? The animal needs putting down"

She later added: "Give me Adebolajo and a butchers blade. He can have his 72 virgins but he will not have anything left to greet them with. Filth."

Michael Adebolajo, 29, together with Michael Adebowale, 22, drove into Fusilier Lee Rigby with a car before hacking him to death in Woolwich, south-east London.

They targeted the soldier because he had been wearing a Help For Heroes top.

At the time, judge Mr Justice Sweeney, said Adebolajo's was a "rare case" which warranted a whole-life term.

Adebowale was sentenced to a minimum of 45 years in jail.
