Outspoken Katie, 38, implied that employers – including herself – are less likely to hire women of 'maternity age' to avoid paying for maternity leave.

The mum-of-three even hinted that pregnant women as for too much time off and are putting businesses of themselves.

Taking to Twitter, Katie wrote: "Trying to sound pleased your employee is pregnant is like trying to smile whilst someone peels the skin from your shins.

"Maternity legislation is expensive and ill-thought out. Women demanding the earth have legislated themselves out of the game."

Of course, Katie has had three children but insists she took hardly any time off following their births.

She continued: "I employed women – and still do. I have three children. And I have never taken more than 2 months maternity leave."

It seems that not everyone disagreed with Katie. One user replied: "I couldn't agree more. Those without children end up without rights and picking up the slack."

Another said: "The thought of my staff announcing they are pregnant terrifies me. I almost considered free contraception as benefit in kind…"

Katie also recently declared that women should even be paid less than men.

She told LBC: "Every time little Timothy has a toothache, you tend to see a female member of staff disappearing.

"We're supposed to be dishing out equal pay, but in reality, the value given to the business by a female employee is significantly less."
