As the eight anniversary approaches since the disappearance of Madeline McCann, her parents have spoken out about their anguish.

Kate and Gerry McCann are continuing to raise funds to help search for their eldest daughter, who went missing from their apartment in Portuguese resort Praia da Luz back in 2007.

Mrs McCann- who is also mum to 9-year-twins- is set to take part in a 500-mile cycle to raise £10,000 for charity Missing People.

Kate said: "As the eighth anniversary of our daughter Madeleine's abduction is upon us, I'm more driven than ever to continue the search for Madeleine and to help other families who face the pain of a child being missing. All of us can play a part in helping this important charity."

Maddie was last seen in her parent's holiday apartment

The charity’s chief executive Jo Youle said: "We are hugely grateful to Kate McCann for taking on this incredible challenge to help missing people and their families across the UK."

Gerry McCann previously told The Sun: "There’s not a day goes by when we don’t think about Madeleine, miss her in some way, and obviously wonder where she is and what’s happened to her.”

Detectives are continuing to look for evidence and have so far questioned a number of people in relation to her disappearance.
