Tonight, Karen Buckley’s friends and family will be starting the long process of coming to terms with the fact that their ‘cherished’ daughter.
In a statement, Karen’s father John Buckley said: “Marian and I, together with our sons Brendan, Kieran and Damian, are absolutely heartbroken.
“Karen was our only daughter, cherished by our family and loved by her friends. She was an outgoing girl, who travelled the world where she met lots of people and thoroughly enjoyed her life. We will miss her terribly.
“We would be very grateful if we could be left alone now to grieve with our family and friends.”
Detective superintendent Jim Kerr told said today that they are continuing to investigate Karen’s death.
Police do not believe that she was taken from the Glasgow club where she was drinking with friends.
Kerr said: “From what we can see, she does not appear to be under duress, there's no signs of a struggle or reluctance on her part to leave the club.”
They continued that they were particularly interested in tracing a grey car spotted on the night of Karen’s disappearance.
Kerr continued: “The activity of this grey car on the Monday is something that we're a wee bit concerned about. This car has been seen at various locations on these roads and I want to know why.
“We know she left the club with her handbag – which has been found - but left her coat behind and so far has not returned to pick it up.
“Why she left so suddenly without telling her friends we just don't know – it was very much out of character – she is usually very good at keeping in touch with pals.”
Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with Karen’s death.
