JK Rowling leaps to Serena Williams defence in Twitter troll attack

After Serena Williams won The Women’s Wimbledon Final on Saturday, there were the inevitable social media trolls who just wanted to take her down a peg or two.

Despite being an incredible sportswoman and arguably the most successful tennis player of her generation (she’s won Wimbledon alone six times), one Twitter user thought he should point out that Serena’s win was mainly based on her ‘manliness.’

Taking to Twitter, ‘Rob’ wrote: ‘Ironic then that main reason for her success is that she is built like a man.’

What he probably didn’t bargain on however, is that J.K. Rowling, a firm fan of Serena’s apparently, took offence at his comment, writing: ‘“She is built like a man.” Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You’re an idiot.’

Rowling has become something of a Twitter legend in recent years, thanks to her firm yet hilarious responses on the network.

When the Westboro Baptist Church took offence to the idea of Dumbledore (the headmaster from Harry Potter) marrying fellow fantasy wizard Gandalf, Rowling hit back with:

‘Alas, the sheet awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds ou of your thick sloping skulls.’

We love you JK.
