The youngest victim of prolific sex offender Jimmy Savile was just 2-years-old, the NSPCC has confirmed.
"[He] was an opportunistic sexual predator"
The children's charity have revealed over 500 reports of abuse have been made against the TV star and DJ; most of the alleged victims were between the ages of 13 and 15, but the youngest was a toddler.
The Department of Health and the BBC are due to publish reports into Savile later this year, but children's charity the NSPCC have already confirmed that its helpline has received 50 more reports of abuse by Savile since its joint report with the Metropolitan Police was published in January 2013.
These included reports from victims themselves, people who knew victims of abuse and people reporting information which was considered useful to the ongoing investigations.
The earliest incident dated back to the mid-1940s, with the most recent in 2007 - and most of the abuse took place on BBC premises, in hospitals and at children's homes.
Peter Watt, from the child protection charity, said: “There’s no doubt Savile is one of the most, if not the most, prolific sex offender the NSPCC has come across.”
He added: "Behind these statistics are individual children whose lives were ruined by a man who was an opportunistic sexual predator."
Panorama - Savile: The Power to Abuse is tonight (2nd June 2014) on BBC One on at 20:30 BST.
