Jimmy Carr, 42, made the uncomfortable joke about Reeva Steenkamp the day after Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to five years for shooting her dead in his bathroom.

"I blame her"

After beginning his Xperia Access Q Awards presentation with an elaborate joke about needing the toilet when there is a long queue, he added: “It's so frustrating.

"All I’m saying is I can see it from Oscar Pistorius’ point of view.”

As an angry buzz filled the room, he added: “If she hadn’t been in that disabled toilet none of this would have happened.”

As the likes of Boy George, Simple Minds, Kasabian and Sandie Shaw sat in stunned silence at Jimmy's comments, he shouted frustratedly: “It’s the f****** Q Awards, come on!"

Following the performance, Jimmy told The Mirror: “I think it went all right. I’m going to go home and write some new jokes.”
