Debby Elnatan was told by medical professionals that her son, born with cerebral palsy, would never walk.
Speaking with the Daily Mail, she said: “When my son was 2 years old, I was told by medical professionals that he didn’t know what his legs are and has no consciousness of them.”
Like any mother, this was extremely difficult for her to hear, so out of “pain and desperation” she came up with the genius idea for the Firefly Upsee Harness.
The support harness allows her wheelchair-bound young son Rotem to stand upright. And, by cinching the top of the harness to her own waist and slipping specially designed sandals on their feet, the device permits mom and child to walk together while keeping their hands free for other activities.
Irish company Leckey mass-produced the revolutionary design and, for the past three months, 20 families from all over the world have been trying out the Upsee for themselves.
Stacy Warden and her 5-year-old son Noah are one of the lucky families who have been trying out the device - and you can see how much of an impact it's had on their lives here:
It's amazing how much of a difference the Upsee has had on their lives, isn't it?
We especially love that the device allowed Noah’s 3-year-old brother Luke was able to hug his brother for the first time.
Because Noah was standing in the harness, he was able to hug his little brother back.
“For the first time we can do so many things as a family,” she said to ABC News.
The Upsee allows infants and small children to stand and achieve repetitive walking training with the support of an adult.
This development will revolutionise the lives of countless disabled children and their families - and it goes on sale worldwide starting 7th April 2014. Check out the Firefly website to find out more.
