A man has been arrested in Austria after driving his SUV into a crowd of people before getting out and stabbing several bystanders.
Three people are thought to have died and 34 others injured following the attack.
The shocking incident took place earlier today in the main shopping area of Graz in the south of the country.
A statement from the city council was published by The Independent reading: “At 12pm there was an appalling incident in the centre of Graz, which has caused major alarm and left the city deeply shaken.
“A killer used his car as a weapon and deliberately ran people down on a rampage. The perpetrator is in custody.”
An eye witness told German website Krone: “People were screaming in panic and ran into the surrounding shops to get to safety.”
A 26-year-old man who ‘suffers from personal problems’ is now in police custody.
Authorities maintain that they do not believe the incident to be a terrorist attack or linked with extremism.
