The 52 year old, who had been forced to leave his home, was found living in a freezing cold cave in the Welsh mountains.
Ray had just a tent, sleeping bag and a small stove, to his name, after someone callously set fire to all his worldly goods.
However, after his story was picked up by the national press, there is now a brighter ending on the horizon for Ray, from Llandudno, north Wales.
Charity, Hope Restored, have come to his aid and provided him with a flat to live in over Christmas and, in a huge show of kindness, it’s reported that numerous individuals have come forward to invite Ray into their homes on Christmas day.
“It’s all gone crazy. We’ve even been contacted by someone in Australia who wanted to help him,” the charity’s founder, Brenda Fogg, told the Mirror.
“A lady from Cardiff rang up asking if she could pay for a hotel for him so that he’d have somewhere warm to stay over Christmas.
“People have even been up to the cave to try and find him, but at the moment he can’t be found as he’s gone off wandering somewhere. Thankfully, we have now found him a flat.”
Ray added: “I hope 2015 will be a better year, I just hope I’ll get a flat as I am getting too old to be living on the streets.”
The Daily Post have started a Go Fund Me Page to enable Hope Restored to help others, like Ray, this Christmas.
