Christmas affects us all in different ways; as children, it fills us with excitement, with wonder and with unbridled joy. As teenagers, we try so desperately hard not to be affected by it all, steadfastly trying to ignore the magic of Christmas.
And as adults? Well, as adults, we begin to appreciate it all over again. The love, the laughter and the beauty of the festive season.
So how best to sum that all up in a video?
Well, from 1985 until 2009, a father chronicled the growth of his children to adulthood by capturing their running, sliding and stumbling down the stairs to their Christmas tree.
And now they've all been spliced together on YouTube, meaning we can watch the children grow up into adults in mere minutes, experiencing all of their Christmases with them in one fell swoop.
Son Nick Confalone explained: "Every year, our dad would tape us coming down the stairs. This is a compilation of all the videos I could find. Relatives and pets grow up and disappear, and new extended family members appear in their place."
Are you ready for this?
It's just… it's pretty emotional to watch. While the children may grow into adults, while pets may come and go, while a loving grandmother may disappear from the videos all together, while his sister's husband appears all of a sudden, one thing remains constant… Christmas morning spent with family.
And we imagine that's why over 1.6 million people ave watched this heartwarming video in the run up to Christmas.
