Jon Boyer, who turns up at his local animal shelter regularly to drop of abandoned or hurt animals, has had a fan page set up in his name: 'I love Jon Boyer' which has attracted thousands of followers.

Sande Rissett, who created Baltimore based anti-animal abuse campaign 'Show your soft side' said that Boyer is constantly coming in with animals that he's rescued from the streets or abandoned buildings.

'All the ladies go ga-ga,' she added.

Boyer, 26, has been with the police force for 3 and a half years, and is being dubbed a 'sex symbol cat saviour.'

'I work in a rough neighbourhood where they have no problem killing a human. Why would they have [a] problem killing an animal,' says Boyer.

The Show your soft side campaign, which began in 2011, aims to show boys and young men that there's nothing tough about torturing or maiming a defenceless animal - and that it's much more manly to be kind.

Boyer stars in one of the campaign posters, cuddled up to a tabby cat, with the caption: 'Only a punk would hurt a cat or dog.'

Jon Boyer has adopted three of the cats he has rescued.

Isn't that a lovely story? For more information on the campaign, click here.
