Irish drink brand Guinness has decided to buck tradition and change it’s 256-year-old recipe to make it more Vegan and vegetarian friendly.

Fans of Guinness might be surprised to learn that the company uses isinglass- an ingredient made out of fish bladders- to filter the drink and remove excess yeast.

Following pressure from campaigners Guinness- which still remains based in Dublin- decided to alter the popular recipe.

A spokesman for the Guinness told The Times: "While isinglass is a very effective means of clarification and has been used for many years, we expect to stop using it as the new filtration asset is introduced.

"We are conscious that its use may represent a barrier to consumption of our products to some.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to further improve the way we make our products, we are seeking alternatives to isinglass."

The great thing about this is that now EVERYONE can enjoy Ireland’s favourite drink. This should make for a very merry St Patrick’s Day.
