Russian police are currently investigating claims that a 68-year-old woman ‘murdered and dismembered’ ten people.
Tamara Samsonova was initially arrested over the death of a 79-year-old woman who she allegedly poisoned following an argument.
Police also suspect that she killed a lodger at her him in 2003.
Ms Samsonova wrote detailed accounts of the alleged murders in her diary in English, Russian and German, though authorities think that many of the writings are made up.
The Russian press have nicknamed her Babushka Yaga, a scary character from local fairytales.
Ms Samsonova’s reported crimes have also been dubbed ‘Nightmare on Dimitrova Street’.
A Russian website claimed: “If the memoirs are correct, the babushka will turn out to be a serial killer on a scale rare for Russia, and her diary a real version of Stephen King.”
Police have looked at security footage which alleges to show Samsonova dragging plastic sack out of an apartment. They reportedly suspect that the bag contained body parts of one of her victims.
According to Neighbours, Samsonova recently received psychiatric treatment during a stay in hospital.
Police continue to investigate Samsonova’s claims and the ongoing murder investigations.
