When Nino Esposito, 78, and Drew Bosee, 68, fell in love they thought that they would never be able to enjoy a legal marriage.
Thinking of ways to get around the system, Nino legally adopted his partner Drew in order to gain inheritance rights and other benefits enjoyed by married couples.
Now that gay marriage has been legalised, the couple have come to regret their decision to go through with the ‘adoption’.
Explaining their situation to The Mirror, Drew said: “We thought it was never going to come to Pennsylvania in our lifetime.”
He added: “It’s sort of ironic that by doing the adoption, we thought we were getting ahead of the game.”
Drew and Nino requested to have the adoption dissolved so they could finally live in legal matrimony, but a US judge has refused them.
This means that their wedding plans are now sadly on hold as they rally around support.
