When hard-up Jenny Ainslie-Turner resorted to sex lines to pay the bills, she never dreamed the career would lead to her finding her perfect partner.
But in January 2012, she found love with regular client Alix James, 32. Divorcee Jenny, 49, from Bradford, says: “I never thought I’d meet someone as special as Alix through my job. But we share a passion for writing, cooking and classical music – he’s everything I was looking for in a man.”
She adds: “During our first chat, he asked me to be his sex slave, then he pretended to spank me down the phone! But, once we got talking, we realised there was a real connection. Alix doesn’t mind me still working on chat lines. He knows it’s just a job and will happily do the dishes while I talk sex with other men. It’s perfect.”
Jenny’s career in chat lines started 12 years ago when she was caring for her late mum, who’d been diagnosed with lung cancer.
She says: “I was struggling to get by on my carer’s allowance and needed a job that would fit around looking after Mum. Then I saw a documentary about chat-line workers and fancied giving it a go. I’m a flirty person and I thought it might be fun. I’d never talked dirty in a relationship or had phone sex before, but I’m quite sexually open-minded."

Jenny contacted a chat-line agency she found advertising for staff in a magazine.
She says: “I was told I’d earn up to £12 an hour and I’d have no travel expenses as I was working from home. I was also informed my calls would be screened for the first few weeks to check I was doing OK.”
A few days after signing up, Jenny – posing as Jolene – took her first call.
She says: “I was so nervous, I drank a bottle of wine. I wore black, lacy knickers under my clothes to feel sexy. The caller wanted to know what I was wearing and asked what I’d do if we were together – and I suggested oral and full sex. I stumbled over my words at first but, after a few calls, I got the hang of it and learnt what turned men on. And I soon enjoyed it.”
Jenny is now self-employed and earns up to £500 a day depending on how many calls she takes. She sometimes wears a gold wig to get into character and says: “A lot of the men are into role play. My clients range in age from 18 to 80. Sometimes, I get asked to dress up, but I can’t be bothered so I just pretend.
Lots of men like sound effects – I’ll whack a riding crop against a cushion to pretend I’m spanking them or rattle handcuffs. Sometimes, callers ask me to walk around in stilettos and boss them around. I’ve got lots of regular clients. They often ask to meet for sex, but I’d never go there.”
Jenny had been single for a year when, last January, she got chatting to Alix and the pair hit it off. She says: “I thought he had a sexy, posh voice. He wanted me to pretend to be his sex slave. Afterwards, we talked about the fantasy and he told me he was a writer. I’m a very creative person too and I felt a spark.”
Jenny and Alix, who spent £380 talking to her, spoke once a fortnight and romance soon blossomed. She says: “He told me he was 31 and had been single for a few months. He’d spoken to a couple of girls before me, but preferred my company. We had the same taste in music and love Chinese food. I began looking forward to his calls.”
Five months later, Jenny visited Alix at his home in Chelmsford. She says: “I was really nervous. I made sure I told my friends where I was going. We hadn’t seen pictures of each other and, when I first saw Alix I wasn’t blown away, but he had a nice smile. He was shyer in person than on the phone but, after a few glasses of wine, the conversation flowed.”
Several weeks later, Jenny and Alix kissed and have been a couple ever since. Jenny says: “Alix is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Our sex life isn’t as extreme as it was on the chat lines, but I like him tying me up! We don’t have phone sex now – we prefer the real thing. I can’t wait to spend our lives together.”
Alix, a science fiction writer, says: “Jenny is amazing and we have a great time together. I don’t mind her job – it’s just an act. I used sex lines for escapism and to act out erotic fantasies. We’re in a loving relationship, that’s the most important thing.”
