She was thought to have been staying at the at the Evalena hotel in Protaras, on the south-east of the island, with her parents and other relatives.
It’s believed they arrived at the resort on Sunday.
Tonight, police confirmed the little girl had died from drowning, after being seen by a holidaymaker.
There was reportedly no lifeguard present at the pool.
Police spokesperson, Adam Kirk, said: “On Monday afternoon a five-year-old girl from England was found drowned in the pool of a hotel in Protaras. A tourist saw the child in the bottom of the pool. He dived in and took her out but it was already too late.
“It seems that the parents had not seen the child. She was in the bottom of the pool for around five minutes.”
Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office are providing consular assistance to her family.
