A mum-of-three controversially DISAGREES with the normal conventions of schools, rules and sensible bedtimes for her children. 25-year-old Vickie lives in Hull with husband Mike, and her three children – Jessica, seven, Theo, four, and Delilah, 11 months.
She believes in 'unschooling' and wants her children to make their own decisions about their lives, despite them being so young.
Vickie took her eldest Jessica out of mainstream school as she felt like she wasn't settling in well.
The mum ensures she doesn't miss out on English, Science or Maths and encourages her daughter to use apps and books, The youngster also has regular meet-ups with with other home-schooled kids which is organised via a Facebook group. They often go out for fun activities such as baking, horse riding and trampolining.
The mum said, "When I said to her 'you don't have to go to school anymore' her face lit up like it was Christmas morning and I couldn't remember the last time I had seen her smile like that."
Vickie, who's appearing on Channel 4's Feral Families, said her children are 'well-behaved and polite' despite the lax rules.
She said, 'People's immediate thoughts are they just eat sweets all the time but the programme shows that that is not what it's like.
"People think my kids must go to bed at 3am but that is not what happens. They have more freedom than most children but they are still well behaved and polite."
Detailing the relaxed rules in her household the mum explained, "My children don't have specific bed times so they go to bed whenever they are tired and we don't eat at certain times.
"It's all about children being able to make their own decisions and parents not overpowering or influencing their decisions
