Picture the scene; it’s the happiest day of your life. The flowers have been arranged, your hair and makeup is perfect and you’ve just attached that beautiful veil to your perfect up-do.
Then your husband-to-be drops a bombshell: he’s leaving you.
The nightmare was an awful reality for one bride after she was dumped an hour before her beach wedding.
Cyndi Maisonneuve wrote an open letter to the Guardian after her big day turned into a massive trauma.
She wrote: "He came into the room and said we needed to talk alone.
"He was crying.
"I assumed he was letting the emotion of the day get to him.
"Then he said it. 'I don't think I can do this.'
"I stood there – with the veil already in my hair.
"This man who was supposed to be the love of my life was telling me he was calling off the wedding less than an hour before we were due on the beach.”
She soon noticed that he had packed his clothes from their hotel suite and had left shortly after their conversation. He was leaving her.
Cyndi had to take a sleeping pill in order to numb the shock that night, and waking up relived the day before in agony.
In returning to her native Canada, Cyndi’s fiancé even suggested that they get back together. Unsurprisingly, the pair never reconciled.
Cyndi is now enjoying dating again years after her terrible wedding experience.
