According the reports, the man violently lashed out at lifeguards when they attempted to save his daughter from drowning.
Lt. Col Ahmed Burqibah, deputy director of Dubai Police's Search and Rescue Department, told Emirates 24|7: "The children, including his 20-year old daughter, decided to go for a swim.
“The young girl was, however, swept away in strong currents and started drowning. Hearing her screams, two life guards rushed to help her, only to be pulled back by the father of the girl.
“He violently fought off the rescuers, stating that he would not allow his daughter to be touched by strange men.
“He said he would prefer she dies.”
Reports continued to explain that the girl’s father, a tall and strong man, pulled at the guards and prevented them from going after his daughter.
Because of this, the 20-year-old was tragically already dead by the time the lifeguards were able to reach her.
Lt. Col Ahmed Burqibah, who admitted that he was emotionally affected by the incident, added that he will never forget what happened that day.
He said: “She died unfortunately, at a time when she had a chance to live, especially that the rescue men were so close to her to pull her out of the water.”
He added that the girl’s father was later arrested by Dubai Police for stopping the rescue team from saving his daughter’s life and doing their job.
He has since been prosecuted and charged.
