Dr Essam Aly, 54, ‘washed his hands’ of his family after leaving hit wife Enas, 46, in 2011, and moved to Bahrain.
Since then, he hasn’t paid any maintenance towards his two children he left behind, and due to the fact he was a ‘serial defaulter’ the judge felt the only way they could secure a deal for the family was to claim all of his assets.
The couple, who married in 2002 and went onto have a daughter and son, split in 2011, with Dr Aly moving to Bahrain.
He then underwent an Islamic marriage ceremony in the country and fathered another child, never once contributing to the other two children he had with Enas.
Because of his behaviour, the judge said he must ensure the family were taken care of now, as it was doubtful Essam would stay around to contribute to his children.
Lord Justice McFarlane, who presided over the case said: ‘Looking to the future, there was no expectation that she could look to him for any future payment of maintenance and it was therefore necessary for her to achieve an award representing effectively most of the capital assets.’
