Laura Everley had been experiencing bloating, lower back pain and constipation for three months, as well as a constant need to urinate.

Laura's symptoms were confused with IBS and Endometriosis

As the young mum has previously suffered with IBS and endometriosis, Laura put these symptoms down to these conditions.

But it was only when she saw a Facebook post which detailed her exact symptoms that she realised she could have ovarian cancer.

Upon having tests, doctors discovered Laura had an aggressive form of ovarian cancer, and performed a hysterectomy to remove her uterus and ovaries.

Although the cancer had already spread, doctors are now confident that through chemotherapy Laura will be able to beat the disease.

The young mum is hoping that her story will raise awareness about the symptoms of ovarian cancer, which can be tricky to spot.

Symptoms to watch out for that could point to ovarian cancer:

  • Increased abdominal size and persistent bloating (not bloating that comes and goes)

  • Persistent pelvic and abdominal pain

  • Difficulty eating and feeling full quickly, or feeling nauseous

Also:

  • Back pain

  • Needing to go to the toilet more frequently

  • Pain during sex

If you're suffering with any of the above, book an appointment with your GP to explain your concerns.
