If you don’t regularly look at your own Facebook profile, you might want to take a peak at it right now as there have been a few changes made.
The popular social network has recently altered a few of their settings, which could see your employment and education history displayed on your profile.
A spokeswoman for Facebook told The Huffington Post that while the update won’t make any private information public, it could make some of your hidden information very obvious to your friends.
Which, for some, could be very awkward.
Especially, if when you were younger and still in school, you put your job title as something utterly ridiculous, because it at the time it was "cool".
The extended education and employment history sections on your profile will now appear by default in the “Intro” field on your profile, which happens to be the first thing someone sees on your profile.
The reason for this update is, apparently, to make people more aware of their privacy settings.
“This is a change we made in the past week to make it easier to understand which of your work and education (school, college) fields are public,” the spokeswoman said.
“None of these fields have [had] their privacy settings changed; we’re now simply showing the already-public fields in Intro.”
To change your settings do the following:
On a computer?
-
Click the pencil icon next to the line of information on your Intro and de-select anything you don’t want to be made visible.
On a mobile?
-
Head to your profile page, tap the line which reads “Edit Info” and de-select what you don’t want to appear.
