After the nation said that refugees were welcome, they were forced to use emergency powers to shut the border after almost 13,000 people entered on Saturday alone.

Germany relaxed border controls in an attempt to help the huge numbers of migrants seeking refuge from conflict in the Middle East.

But the country were later forced to do a U-turn, after record numbers of people turned up at their southern border looking for a safe place to live.

Interior Minister Thomas de Maizere said that despite being the richest country in Europe, Germany could not bear the full burden of the immigrants, and migrants would have to be resettled throughout Europe after discussion with various governments.

The EU is attempting to come up with a new system for how it handles migration to Europe, the old system being that wherever they land takes responsibility for that person’s welfare.

However, this understandably puts more pressure on nations on the edges of Europe, including Italy and Greece, who have economic troubles of their own.
