Estela Meléndez, 91, recently suffered a fall, and was rushed to hospital in la Boca, Chile.

Whilst she was there, doctors carried out an x-ray - and were left worried by what they saw there.

“The doctor said I had a tumour and that they needed to operate on me,” Estela told CNN.

However, when a second x-ray was carried out on the lump on Estela’s belly, doctors were left speechless.

The mass they were looking at was a foetus, not a tumour.

After investigating properly, doctors were able to confirm that the foetus had been in her uterus for over six decades.

As it is calcified and poses no health risk to the woman, they have determined that operating on her to remove it would be more dangerous than leaving things be.

Estela says that, while the lump is only a little uncomfortable, the pain goes a little deeper than that.

Revealing that she and her husband were never able to have children, she said: “We suffered tremendously because of this.”

The lump on her belly, she said, will remind her of her husband, who recently passed away, and their unfulfilled dreams of becoming parents.
