France - beach holiday

We’re all going on an easter holiday, no more working for a week or two.

Only it won’t be all fun and laughter for those heading on their holibobs today, as French traffic control employees are currently on strike.

Cue potential chaos for anyone heading to France today, as severely long delays are predicted.

Eep.

The industrial action will affect those travelling from Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton Airport to French airports (and vice versa), with many likely to experience lengthy delays or cancellations as a result.

Gatwick Airport have shared a warning on their homepage, which reads: “Due to industrial action by French Air Traffic control staff, some flights may be subject to delays.

“Passengers are advised to check with their airline for an update on their flight status.”

A spokesman for easyJet told The Independent: "Affected customers can change their flight free of charge or receive a refund. We advise customers to make any amendments to their booking on the Manage my Bookings area of easyJet.com.”

He added: “As well as affecting flights to and from France, the strike action is causing delays to other flights which use French airspace.

"We recommend that all customers travelling on Sunday 20 and Monday 21 March 2016 check the status of their flight on our Flight Tracker page."

Despite the situation being outside of their control, the easyJet spokesman extended an apology to all customers affected by the disruption.

British Airways refused to disclose how many flights would be affected by the strikes, but said that it was doing "all we can to minimise disruption to customers affected".

And Ryanair are encouraging their customers to sign a ‘Keep Europe’s Skies Open’ petition, which aims to prevent passengers flights and holidays being delayed or cancelled when Air Traffic Control (ATC) unions in France go on strike.

They have said that they hope this petition will put a stop to the "repeated blackmail and disruption by ATC unions".

Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Orly, Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle and Lyon and Nice are all said to be experiencing delays.

Please do contact your airlines to check the status of your flights if you are concerned.

The disruption is expected to last until Tuesday.
